Exciting Winter Activities for Everyone

Written by Ava Ling

Sledding, building a snowman, skiing, ice skating - all popular things to do during the winter. It's usually the time of year that people look forward to, especially because of the holidays. Despite the limitations imposed by the cold, people continue to find creative ways to enjoy themselves. The colder weather also opens the opportunity for seasonal weather conditions such as snow to start falling, which many enjoy playing in and watching it fall from the sky, knowing that it only comes around at a certain time of the year. Whether it's indoor or outdoor activities, people love the festivities and time you get to spend with your friends and family.

An activity that becomes popular especially around the holidays is ice skating. Some of the best listed places to go ice skating are the Flemington Ice Arena, the Winterfest Ice Rink, and the American Dream mall. As a competitive sport, many people find it beautiful and interesting to watch. The difficulty of performing tricks on ice and recognizing the effort it takes to be balanced is underestimated by the crowd. Additionally, the festive excitement also draws people to New York! They have ice skating at Central Park, performances at Lincoln Center, a Winter Village at Bryant Park, and a Holiday Express Train to hop onto. As a fun winter activity, it is a common occupation chosen to do with your friends. Many people get laughs out of watching their friends hug the wall or fall a couple of times. Whether you decide to ice skate for fun or for a more serious matter, it is always looked forward to.

Other winter activities well liked by the people are skiing and snowboarding.  Some nearby resorts to perform these activities are Mountain Creek, Campgaw Mountain, and Mount Peter. Although it is on the more challenging side of skills to learn, the rush you feel when going down slopes at a high speed with liveliness is what people like to feel. For those with more experience, the bigger bumps, moguls, and overall more challenging slopes are what they turn to. People also enjoy doing tricks like butters, grabs, spins, and flicks off the ramps some of the slopes have. The snowfall for this winter activity is perfect, and is actually needed in order to ski and snowboard. Many resorts end up making their own fake snow if there is not enough, if any at all, so they still attract the business they need.

As often as people do this activity year round, people enjoy baking sweet desserts, getting comfortable with a blanket, and switching on a movie to watch with their loved ones. Some well-liked desserts made during the holidays are peppermint bark, holiday truffles, basic sugar cookies, and bread pudding. People find this time of year to experiment with different recipes and ingredients, and putting their own spin on basic foods. As this time of year also involves a time of giving and appreciation, these types of treats are shared amongst numerous communities. They are given out generously at churches, to neighbors, friends, and family. As far as movies go, people like to stick to the classic ones every year. These consist of Home Alone, The Polar Express, How the Grinch stole Christmas, and Elf.
