The FHS Boys Basketball season will soon be underway this November. After a 16-12 season last year and major parts of the team graduating in Cam Brown, Landon Miller, and Elisha Brown, they're looking to improve with their new & returning varsity players and make another run in the NJSIAA Tournament.
Big roster changes will bring a challenge to the boys team this year, having a few of their top contributors of the last couple years graduating, and the big 2025 senior class will look to fill the gaps. They’ll be looking to bring in a lot of energy into the season, led by experienced varsity seniors in Christian Lewis and Shaylen Patel. As far as underclassmen, a few of last year’s varsity players were asked who they believed would make the biggest jump from last season. Names like Derrick Peters (jr.), Brandon Strand (so.), and Roger Diaz (jr.) came up, due to the extra work they’ve put in since the end of last season. One interviewee mentioned how Derrick and Brandon are great on the ball defenders and have the ability to score with their own will, so we’ll be on the lookout for that during the season.
There were several close and competitive games last year, including Immaculatta and Watchung Hills (regular season and playoffs). The interviewees believe Rutgers Prep and Hillsborough are exciting teams to play, so those games should be on the lookout for a ton of attendance during the season. A special lookout should be given to a big rival of ours, Piscataway, so make sure to be there to cheer on our team.Â
This year’s team is filled with seniors, so it’s important for them to have some sort of goal to round out their high school basketball careers. For this, the interviewees were asked what their goals are for the season. These included breaking the school record for 3s made in a season and averaging 10 points per game.Â
