The Marching Warriors win at Metlife!

Isaiah Mosley-Aviles writes about the Warrior Marching Band winning a competition at MetLife Stadium.

The FHS Marching Band wins the 5A band competition at MetLife on October 12th with a score of 83.3 points! The Franklin High School Marching Band has been hard at work this season, starting on the second to last week of August. Their show, Paint It Black, features the song by the Rolling Stones and centers around discovering a rock identity. The show is broken up into three movements each representing a step closer to the band going full rock out mode.

Ludwig Musser hosts a competition for marching bands across the East Coast to come and perform on the same stadium Football Teams Giants and Jets play on. The FHS band has played on the field before, competing just a year prior. Then however, fortune was not on their side as they suffered a loss due to misplacement of essential equipment. This year the band was ready to show the judges that they were back and that there wouldn’t be any more catastrophes.

They did it! The band successfully performed in the competition and even succeeded in winning for their group 5A. Our school’s musicians were ecstatic with this win. Arjun, a saxophone section leader, described it as “one of the happiest moments in my life”. Stafford, a member of the mellophone section, had a similar sentiment as they are “pretty proud of the work we accomplished.” As Natally, the drum major, put it “I was overwhelmed with such joy and couldn’t believe that we actually won”. She also said that “It was such a cool experience and such a good way to finish off my senior year as drum major”.

The band is hoping to compete in many more competitions in the years to come. This season they’ll be finishing off in the state competition. The band is under the direction of Daniel Berz and Eric Diaz.
