As winter comes to an end and the sunset is set for 7 p.m., the arrival of spring marks the beginning of an exciting season for high school sports. Athletes are returning to the field, court, and track. The students here at FHS are eager to showcase their skills and compete at their best. Spring sports bring a unique energy—whether it’s the crack of a baseball or softball bat or hearing Coach Gourdine, the head coach for boys’ track and field, scream “MOVE!” there is always something for everyone to enjoy.

Track and field stands out as one of the most physically demanding and diverse sports of the season. With events ranging from the 100-meter dash to shot put and long jump, it offers a challenge for athletes of all skill sets. Competitors push themselves to beat personal records (PRs), and the thrill of watching a close race or a record-breaking jump never gets old. For those who thrive on endurance and speed, track is the perfect stage to prove their abilities.

Baseball and softball also take the stage this spring. These sports require precision and teamwork because the momentum can switch in a second. Combined with the nostalgia and tradition surrounding these two sports, they easily become all-time springtime favorites.

Tennis might not be the fastest-moving sport, but that is exactly what immerses the audience. It requires immense focus, technique, and skill. The players rely on quick footwork and strategy to beat their opponents. From the sound of the ball hitting the racket to the tension of a tiebreaker, tennis matches are always very engaging.

New to FHS, flag football has been gaining popularity. Unlike traditional football, flag football focuses on speed, agility, and teamwork without the need for physical contact. Players strategize to execute quick passes, runs, and defensive plays. With every touchdown

and interception, this sport definitely delivers excitement and energy to the fans watching.

Spring sports, like any other seasonal sports, bring thrilling competition but also a sense of community among the athletes, coaches, and fans. Every season brings new opportunities for growth, with players refining their skills and pushing themselves to achieve great things. Whether it’s on the track, field, or court, the dedication and hard work these students put in are undeniable. Each game or meet is a moment to remember.
